Prior to establishing his own firm, Mr. Albert practiced law for 20 years in senior roles at major firms – Sidley Austin LLP, Hennigan, Bennett & Dorman LLP, and Graham & James LLP (now known as Squire, Dempsey & Sanders LLP – where he was honored to work with and against some of the finest attorneys in the country and built a huge "Client List" of major corporations. His dedication to achieving his clients' objectives is reflected in the representative cases he has successfully handled for both clients facing serious liability exposure and clients seeking justice for wrongdoing inflicted by unscrupulous or negligent businesses and individuals.

Educational Background

Mr. Albert is a Los Angeles native. He attended the University of California Berkeley, where he majored in Comparative Literature, with emphasis in Romance languages and literature. Mr. Albert is fluent in French, Spanish and Portuguese, and is conversant in Italian. Mr. Albert also was U.C. Berkeley's first-string heavy-weight boxer, and rowed crew on the U.C. Berkeley Crew Team. Phi Beta Kappa invited Mr. Albert to join its honor society in his junior year. He was a member of the Dean's Honor Society every term, and graduated in 1984 with High Distinction in General Scholarship. His senior thesis, "Forma e Conteudo em 0 Sonho da Terra " -- a literary critical analysis -- was published by the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1984. Following the family tradition, Mr. Albert then attended U.C. Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law, where he was invited to be a member of the California Law Review in 1987 and became Associate Editor in 1988. His senior thesis, "Deregulation and the Thrifts: The Case for Dismantling the Current Regulatory Structure," was published by U.C. Berkeley's National Center of Financial Services in 1988. Mr. Albert graduated from U.C. Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law in 1988, and passed the California Bar Exam shortly afterwards. Mr. Albert remains current on emerging developments in the law in his areas of specialization.

Pro Bono, Charitable and Civic Activities, and Related Awards and Honors

In addition to his commercial law practice and family life, Mr. Albert is actively involved in pro bono, charitable, and civic activities in the greater Los Angeles community. Both the bench and the bar have publicly recognized Mr. Albert for his voluntary provision of legal services without expectation of compensation, to indigent and not-for-profit organizations with a primary purpose of providing services to the poor and disadvantaged, improving the law and the legal system, and increasing access to justice. The Second, Fourth and Fifth Districts of the California Court of Appeals have appointed Mr. Albert as appellate counsel to represent indigent defendants on appeal, in which capacity Mr. Albert has handled numerous appeals for indigent defendants. The State Bar of California has honored Mr. Albert for his pro bono legal efforts on behalf of disadvantaged consumers victimized by unfair business practices and fraud, and on behalf of other indigent and disadvantaged individuals. Among other awards, Mr. Albert is the recipient of the State Bar of California Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services, the President's Pro Bono Service Award, and the Public Counsel William O. Douglas Award (team recipient).

In the past, Mr. Albert has been a founding chairman of various charitable corporations and organizations dedicated to the arts, including Aria!, the professionals' support organization of the Los Angeles Opera, Allegro!, the professionals' association of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, now known as “Pulse”, and a board member of the juniors of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

In addition to Mr. Albert’s ongoing pro bono legal work and his efforts to support Los Angeles’ cultural institutions, Mr. Albert also supports outreach and assistance efforts for individuals and families who are homeless or otherwise are ill or impoverished through Roman Catholic relief organizations. Mr. Albert is, for example, a Knight of Malta, and a member of the Western Association of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta. In addition to Mr. Albert’s support for the ill and impoverished, he also serves as co-chair of the Order of Malta’s Defense of the Faith Committee in the greater Los Angeles region. Mr. Albert also is the founding chairman of the Los Angeles Queen of Angels Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable corporation which sponsors an annual parade in Los Angeles’s downtown Civic Center to celebrate the founding of the City of Los Angeles on September 4, 1781, to honor the Southland’s history and heritage, to celebrate our City’s accomplishments and diversity, and unite our multicultural community to face our common challenges.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the entire City Council of Los Angeles recently have issued commendations to Mr. Albert for his civic contributions to the City of Los Angeles.
